There are so many nonprofits doing incredible, critical work in our Seacoast community. In light of Giving Tuesday coming up, we’re highlighting a few of the nonprofits Piscataqua Savings Bank is proud to support. Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement that began in 2012 and falls on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
The Chase Home
The Chase Home initially started as an orphanage, but it has evolved to meet the growing needs of youth and their families throughout NH. Today, The Chase Home provides a variety of services and programs both on-site at The Chase Home and in the community to at-risk youth and their families. Recently, Piscataqua employees brought in items and prepared a complete spaghetti dinner (including dessert!) for those currently in residence at The Chase Home to enjoy as one of our #NHBanksGiveBack activities.
Hope on Haven Hill
Hope on Haven Hill provides a safe, nurturing home for pregnant women with substance use disorder, along with their children. In addition to their residential services, Hope on Haven Hill offers Intensive Outpatient and Outpatient Clinical Services to all women in recovery, including providing child care during group time to make treatment more accessible to mothers. Piscataqua Savings Bank was able to make a contribution last year to support Hope’s future Center for Hope and Wellness in Rochester, NH which will become a hub for families in recovery, offering treatment and wellness programs, workplace training, childcare for parents in agency programs, and community space for a range of health and learning programs.
Portsmouth Music and Arts Center (PMAC)
PMAC builds community through the arts by providing all people with the opportunity to achieve their full creative potential, regardless of their age, ability, or economic status. Currently celebrating their 20th year of providing high quality music and visual arts education programs, PMAC fosters current and future artists belonging to Portsmouth’s thriving arts scene.
Big Brothers Big Sisters New Hampshire
Big Brothers Big Sisters provides youth mentoring services and resources for parents, teachers and other defenders of New Hampshire youth. Big Brothers Big Sisters is probably best known for their 1-to-1 community based mentoring program but they also offer college and career exploration, preparing Littles with the skills and tools to succeed after high school, and occupation-based mentoring. BBBSNH is always looking for people eager to positively impact a child and improve their community at the same time. Visit their volunteer page to learn more about becoming a mentor.
Child Advocacy Center of Rockingham County
Child Advocacy Center works in conjunction with local police, child protection services, the county attorney’s office, victim advocates, and mental and medical health providers to nurture a community where children are safe and where justice for victims of sexual and physical abuse can be obtained. CAC takes a multi-disciplinary approach to serve the needs of Seacoast area children and their families.
Prescott Park Arts Festival
The Prescott Park Arts Festival provides financially accessible, multi-generational, high-quality, family friendly, art and educational outreach to a large and diverse audience. PPAF runs on a suggested donation model, offering theatre performances, music by both local and nationally touring acts, and outdoor movie nights. Piscataqua Savings Bank is proud to have supported PPAF since the very beginning, recognizing the value in providing arts experiences for all to enjoy.
Portsmouth NH 400
Portsmouth NH 400 was founded to spark the city’s collective imagination, leverage the talent of its multifaceted population and many organizations, and lead up to and beyond Portsmouth’s 400th anniversary in 2023. Portsmouth NH 400’s role involves convening, promoting, and coordinating celebration plans.
Friends Forever International
Friends Forever International was founded in New Hampshire but works with communities around the globe to build the leadership abilities of their youth from diverse backgrounds to tackle local and global issues. Their social action projects and leadership programs help youth become the best versions of themselves so they in turn can help their community become the best version of itself.
The Gundalow Company
The Gundalow Company protects the Piscataqua Region’s maritime heritage and environment through education and action. Each year, thousands of students spend a few hours sailing onboard the world’s only Piscataqua Gundalow, learning how the gundalow shaped Portsmouth’s working waterfront and exploring issues like water quality, habitat protection, stewardship, and navigation.
Step Up Parents
Step Up Parents offers financial assistance and support to relative caregivers in New Hampshire who have stepped up to care for children whose biological parents struggle with substance use disorder. Step Up Parents strives to meet every family’s individual needs, whether it is aiding with the cost of daycare, clothing, baby supplies, music lessons, legal fees or a special camp for a struggling child.
Seacoast Repertory Theatre
Seacoast Repertory Theatre enriches the culture of the Seacoast community through the shared experience of live theatre. The Rep contributes to and enriches the theatre scene by producing creative, thoughtful, and high quality year-round programming with a strong focus on education, responsible storytelling, the cultivation of new works, imaginative takes on classic pieces and the delivery of fresh diverse perspectives on the human experience.
