To the Editor:

We wish to thank Piscataqua Savings Bank’s recent contribution of $1,000.

At Connections Peer Support Center, we serve those living in the Seacoast region, with programming at our Portsmouth location at 544 Islington St., community outreach, and through our peer-run 5 to 10 p.m. Warm Line phone support service.

Mental health challenges affect everyone. Those experiencing them are our family members, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and even ourselves. For many, peer support is an essential ingredient for overcoming those challenges and for living engaged and fulfilling lives in our communities. To be sure, the recovery process has its twists and turns, but our members are there to share both the challenges and successes of each others’ personal recovery.

“Fiscally, Piscataqua Savings Bank’s investment in Connections is a sound one: the cost of providing services is $15 per day/per person (there is no charge to our members), while hospitalization for one day can exceed $1,500. Our regularly participating members report fewer hospitalizations, fewer mental health crises, and improved quality of life, thanks to their involvement in our peer support community.

Our sincerest thanks to Piscataqua Savings Bank for their long tradition of supporting the community and for their generous support of Connections Peer Support Center.
